The great outdoors #ClanMeetUp

Summer wouldn't be summer without a BBQ in Perth with the Lambs...and a set of family photos to mark the expanding clan (at the duck pond) (and before Clan Boyd returns home..).

Sunshine on a rainy day #FalkirkWheel

The Falkirk Wheel is a rotating boat lift in Scotland - the only rotating boat lift of its kind in the world. It links the Forth and Clyde Canal with the Union canal, which used to be connected by 11 locks, which seems a very slow way to have switched between one and t'other. By the 1930s the users also thought so, plus the advent of rail travel meant the canals fell out of use. One of the benefits of the National Lottery plus the Millennium Link project was to revitalise the canals for leisure purposes. Well, here it is:
It looks impressive and it is impressive, and the boat tours are impressively long when you have 5 children to entertain over lunchtime. Well, sod all that, we were just in it for a fun day out and a way to escape the rain.

And a warm and snuggly round off to the day was celebrating Tootsiepie's 26th birthday:

Social Capital #TaggingAlongForTheRide

Where do you find water like this?
In the same place that you find this
While daddy went to meetings at the WTO, mama and Small Fry spent the day wandering around Geneva. It's only a 3 hour train trip from Paris, so I'm not sure why we haven't done it before. It was stinking hot though and all that walking in the pram lulled SF to sleep 5 times...mostly during the boring sightseeing parts:

Heading to the old town

Steep, but at least there were plenty of folk willing to help lift the pram up and down the stairs.
Friendly place is Geneva.

Free water wherever we went
He was wide awake though for 'baby plage'...a little strip of sand on the edge of the lake where babies and pushchairs are welcome and there are plenty of nappy bins and free loos.
Daddy eventually joined us in time for currywurtz, chips and beer at the party end of the plage. Then SF decided 5 naps had completely restored him and we spent the first class train trip home (gotta love air con after a day in the heat and humidity) with a crazy baby...

Keeping Cool #HotNewsDay

With temperatures reaching 34 degrees during the day and settling at 29 at night in our bedroom, it's been difficult for all of us to get sleep.

We just managed to get one of the last two fans left in the electrical shop, closed the shutters, and Small Fry went about practising his going backwards skills on the parquet before we both konked out for a long afernoon nap.

And then we woke up to hear a very rich lady had given birth, apparently to one who will 'reign over us'.

The Neighbours' Turn #WeddingDay

We attended the civil wedding of our neighbours this weekend in a rapid and dry ceremony that is legally required in France. They are planning a Church blessing and big party next year, which is apparently all the rage now ;-)

Good job even the park wardens are away on holiday)
