Lost in Translation

One of the advantages of working in an international environment is the variety of people you meet, many of them linguistically highly talented. My Japanese friend Satoru is one such example. Not only is he able to pick up languages envy-inducingly quickly, but he actually counts language learning as one of his hobbies. He can write in upwards of 10 languages although modestly reports his spoken abilities are a bit more limited. He does, however, have a particular interest in regional dialects and tries to pick up local slang whenever possible. This has led to some absolutely delightful e-mails from him. I'm not sure why I have not kept more, but here are my particular favourites:

Tallyho Ingrid!
Trust you had a blissful time in Alba. This Friday to Monday I shall be in Saint Petersburg (Санкт-Петербург).
You must allow me to tell you how ardently I should like to invite you out for dinner, so pray ponder on that!
Cheers,
Satoru

Ay up Ingrid, D'ye ken the day is the fête de la Sainte Ingrid in France? Have a barry Sunday! Tara, Satoru.

Dear Ingrid,
Thank you very much for the Pancake Day party last evening, hosted by you and Sabrina; it was pure braw with a friendly atmosphere.
Satoru.

Ryte, Ingrid?
It wis pure barry to see you yesterday. Your anniversaire had actually been in my mind; one will of course join a supper on the 4th prox. On that day, there will be a farewell party for a colleague in the office; so I shall have a wee drop of apéritif before going to the Palais de Tokyo, the exhibits of which are, by the way, not much related to things Japanese.
Satoru.

Dear Ingrid,
Trust you had a lovely Easter. During the three days, I jogged in the bois de Boulogne, in order to prepare for the Marathon de Paris, which will take place on the 6th proximo. I also saw a film titled Paris, no less, and visited two museums, i.e. Musee Cognacq-Jay and Musee du Louvre; I particularly like A. Van Dyck. Were you in Paris then, or did you go angling for trout or salmon in Tayside? I think the season has been opened. This Saturday and Sunday, I shall visit the Corse (Corsica). I am minded to turn up a service at the Saint Michael's another time, I assure you.
I remain, Ingrid dear, your humble servant,
Satoru

Wotcher Ingrid,
Thanks awfully for your swift assistance.
With best regards,
Satoru

Darling Ingrid,
Is your fishery commitee work going well? I can hardly spare you.
Best love,
Satoru
